Cook Time 6 hours
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese softened
  • 2 cups strong brewed espresso cooled to room temperature
  • 2 packs ladyfinger biscuits savoiardi
  • 2 tbsp coffee liqueur like Kahlúa, optional
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings optional, for garnish

Method

Step 1: Make the Cream Base
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks with sugar until pale and creamy. This will be the foundation of that luxurious mascarpone filling.
Step 2: Whip the Cream
  1. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  2. Gently fold it into the mascarpone cheese until smooth. Then, combine with the egg mixture for the ultimate fluffy texture.
Step 3: Prepare the Coffee Bath
  1. Mix the cooled espresso with the coffee liqueur in a shallow dish. This is where your ladyfingers will take a quick dip (emphasis on quick — soak too long and they’ll fall apart!).
Step 4: Layer Like a Pro
  1. Dip each ladyfinger lightly into the coffee mixture.
  2. Arrange them in a single layer at the bottom of your dish.
  3. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  4. Repeat with another layer of dipped biscuits and the rest of the cream.
Step 5: The Final Touch
  1. Dust the top generously with unsweetened cocoa powder and, if you’re feeling fancy, sprinkle some dark chocolate shavings.
Step 6: Chill & Serve
  1. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 6 hours (overnight is even better). The flavors will mingle beautifully, giving you that dreamy tiramisu texture.
