Gingerbread Spiced Hot Chocolate

Cook Time 5 minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk any — whole, almond, oat, or soy
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp dark chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar or honey/maple syrup
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of ground cloves optional but festive
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream dairy or coconut — for topping
  • Extra cinnamon or crushed gingerbread cookies — for garnish

Equipment

  • 1 medium saucepan
  • Whisk (or spoon)
  • 2 mugs
  • Optional: Hand frother or blender for a creamy café-like finish

Method

Step 1: Warm the Milk
  1. Pour milk into a saucepan and heat gently on medium. Don’t let it boil — just enough to feel warm.
Step 2: Mix the Cocoa Base
  1. Whisk in cocoa powder, chocolate chips, and brown sugar. Stir until smooth, glossy, and chocolate is melted.
Step 3: Add the Gingerbread Magic
  1. Sprinkle in cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. Stir well to combine. Inhale deeply — your kitchen now smells like Christmas.
Step 4: Flavor Boost
  1. Add vanilla extract and give it one final whisk. Taste and adjust sweetness/spice if needed.
Step 5: Serve & Top
  1. Pour into mugs, top with whipped cream, dust with cinnamon, and add crushed gingerbread cookies if you want that Pinterest look.

Special Notes & Tips

  • Vegan option: Use almond or oat milk + coconut whipped cream.
  • Healthier twist: Swap brown sugar with honey or stevia.
  • Extra indulgent: Stir in a spoon of Nutella or caramel sauce.
  • Make-ahead: Mix the dry spice + cocoa blend in a jar. Next time, just add milk and heat.
